Although I wouldn't normally leave religious decisions up to a child, I think in this case you should be honest with your son and explain that you aren't Jewish but he is and let him tell you what his religious feelings are. If he is comfortable and happy at religious school and being part of the temple, then you need to let him continue to do so. Believe me, there are plenty of full-blooded Jews who know nothing about the religion, so don't feel like you are letting him down. If he wants to explore other religions, let him do that too.

Both my husband and I are Jewish and are raising our kids the same, but I do believe that religion is a very personal issue and each person (even kids) should be able to decide what they want to believe in.Carolynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17242299506379477112noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38232942.post-24288182106489884512010-09-15T04:19:03.398-07:002010-09-15T04:19:03.398-07:00Funny, the Christmas question! :D
Yes, it is diffi...Funny, the Christmas question! :D
Yes, it is difficult when you are not on the same page with regards to religion.
I think you should be open to your son, and tell him what you believe. But tell him that you want him to be comfortable in whatever religion he wants to pursue, and that you will help him the best you could. It sounds to me that you are...
I understand your frustration in that his dad's family are not involved!
Good luck!Karen du Toithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17962536496240863886noreply@blogger.com
